i was always told by my breeder to never feed over 23% protein but my breeder wasnt the best.

Kept eight danes in a greenhouse in January hence another reason I bought lennox... 😠

I always check the level and have tried not to give Khan over that amount.

At the moment the protein level of his food is 22%. Thats Nutro Lamb and Rice.

As a breeder I was talking to yesterday said - Its one third breeding and two thirds feeding that makes a dog

i feed all my dogs on wagg complete,
it only has 20% protein.

Julie. 😊

Our protein is 23% and thats eagle pack and thats what our breeder feeds her dogs with and thats what we feed Montana with.

It depends on the age and activity level of the dog. If they are very active then there is no problem in feeding a higher protein level once they are over about a year old.

Mine are on 24% protein at present. I wouldn't feed a pup on more than 20-22% though.

This is alwasy gonna be a problem..

I personally for a young pup-adult hood and through out life would feed around 25% (but thats just me) and would look for a HIGH oil/fat content too over the norm of 10-12% to if poss 14-16%.

i have raised a pup from twelve weeks of a food with with 36% protine in and 20% oil and he was fine all the way to 12months ( then he went back to his owner) you could not fault his body shape weight etc, but was a little hyper.
and i have also had a pup on 25% which was equally as good but he wasnt hyper, the reason for me choosing the lower 25% is high levels of protine can send some dogs up the wall and casuse them to be hyper.

i dont suppose it matters WHAT the protine levels are at the end of the day, feed what YOU think is best not what the shop owner or especially a vet who premotes things like science plan ( which i have been told off a woman that works in a vets its not what its made out to be it just has a BIG price tag to give the illusion its good stuff, she gets it a cost price basically dirt cheap as thats what it is she said, that the only reason she feed it to her dogs) as long as your dog is healthy, happy and not showing signs of growth defects, dont worry about it.

everybody's oppinion on this will be different, and contradictory..! i have to say i have stopped worring about it coz i got in a right tizz about it. 🤔 😶 🤔 😶

I agree feed whats best for your dane or you'd end up worrying to death!

One dane of mine is on a 24% and the other is on 20% but then i add extras in depending whats on offer at the supermarket 😄 it could be tins of dog food (butchers tripe at the mo 3x99p) or tins of tuna, blocks of cheese? Anything i think can be added will be added.
So i haven't a clue what the protein level is after this 🥷
